The pet industry uses vast amounts of plastics. It can be hard to quantify exactly how much of the pet market is made from plastic, but we do know, that trying to find pet products that are eco-conscious and plastic-free can be something of an uphill battle! With an estimated 300 million pounds of plastic waste generated per year just from the pet food industry in the USA alone (at the time of writing), we can start to get a feel for the size of the problem. We are passionate animal lovers here at The Green Greyhound and we want to keep the environmental impact of pet ownership as small as possible. We also want to minimise the amount of plastic and chemical exposure to both us and our pets as we can. And we know that we are not alone. We always do our best to offer pet products that are either plastic-free or use only recycled plastics. But that is missing out on a lot of wonderful products made by aspiring companies who are trying to be more sustainable in their production and distribution. In line with our plastics policy (available at the bottom of the page) we accept that sometimes compromise needs to be made to support change. Where companies are making efforts to enrich or improve the lives of our beloved pets whilst at the same time taking practical steps toward sustainability (even if they aren't quite there yet) then where appropriate, we will start to stock them in our store. Please be assured though that our product descriptions will remain detailed and transparent so you can always make an informed choice in line with your own principals.
